SSU1053: Introduction to Social Interaction

Lesson 1 : Introduction to Social Interaction

In the theme, one states what communication is. Beck believes that A (2002) Communication is the core of our daily lives, that is, from the moment we wake up in the morning to the moment we fall asleep, we are always in the process of communicating. In addition, according to Mc Quail and Windahl (1993), communication can occur in any situation, such as from one person's behavior to others, interaction with others, and reactions to others.

In my understanding, communication in learning has an advantage, that is, communication can teach us to improve the way we look at ourselves. For example, when we communicate with others from there, we can know who we are and how we communicate with others. In addition, it can improve the way others see themselves when communicating. Next, my understanding of communication and what I can learn is that learning to communicate and participating in effective communication behaviors can improve our relationship with others. For example, we can talk very well, because communication is the key to happiness in the relationship, and it is very important.

In addition, learning to communicate also makes us confident in expressing our opinions, and communication can also make us successful. Therefore, I can also learn and understand how we communicate. What I learned in this communication topic is that the way we communicate is by thinking about the information we want to share verbally or non-verbally and writing directly to the recipient.

In the communication theme, there are also several types of communication, namely personal internal communication, interpersonal communication, interpersonal communication, group communication, organizational communication and public communication. In short, my understanding of this type of communication is that interpersonal communication is personalized.

Whether he is dreaming, dreaming, thinking, etc. At the same time, interpersonal communication involves several people, two or three people, sending signals to each other through the use of sounds, hand movements, or other meaningful signs behind them. Secondly, interpersonal communication is to use the object through the use of telephone or computer. In addition, group communication is an exchange between three or more people, while organizational communication is a formal interaction in a work environment. In addition, public communication refers to one person speaking in a large group of people.

In short, in my opinion, we should increase our self-confidence through communication so that we can express the opinions we want to share. There are also many ways to communicate with people by using the types of communication I explained above. We also need to understand the principles of communication. Finally, with the presence of communication in the lessons I was able to train myself to communicate and teach me to always communicate whether in small or large groups. We also need to understand the principles of communication. Finally, with the presence of communication in the lessons I was able to train myself to communicate and teach me to always communicate whether in small or large groups.

Lesson 2 : Identity & Perception

In my understanding indentity and perception is that identity has many of its characteristics. Among them are multifaceted. Multifaceted is that an individual has multiple identities within himself. For example, identity as a woman This woman has various identities that she can be a housewife, friend, mother, employee and others. In addition, other characteristics of identity are social and personal. What I understand this personal is unique to ourselves by using the statement ‘I’ and social pulak is an identity shared in a large group by using the statement ‘We’.

Next, my understanding of the characteristics of identity is that stature and strength are stature or earnestness carrying the meaning of identity stand out in certain situations. Whereas, strength is an interest in identity. To my understanding, strength is very important in identity in order to further strengthen our identity to someone. Stability in identity is also contained in its characteristics and it means in short it is to whom we speak and what we will speak.

In the characteristics of identity there is a statement "avowed and ascribed". Avowed refers to our own identity which is the process of telling people our identity and the way we see within ourselves. Manakal ascribed refers to the process for us to see one's identity. In learning the characteristics of identity, I was able to learn about passing and outing. From there I can know that there are also those who hide their identity when in the group and there are also those who show their identity in the group. For example, I have the identities of both. Sometimes I hide my identity and will show my identity to a group member or even an individual.

Finally, in topic 2 i.e. identity also emphasizes on concept and identity. The concept of self refers to how we see ourselves in terms of feelings, thoughts, weaknesses, abilities and others to be shown by people around. In addition, self -awareness is also emphasized in identity. Self-awareness refers to us listening to people’s opinions about ourselves, asking questions of ourselves and others. In addition, self-esteem refers to the way we think about ourselves, what we want in ourselves and others.

In conclusion, I can learn a about identity. Identity is very important in us so that people are around and we will know who we really are. We also have multiple identities within ourselves. What I got from this topic is that with self -concept, self -awareness and self -esteem we can improve ourselves so that people around us know who we really are without judging us from the outside only.

Lesson 3 : Verbal communication skills

In lesson 3 states about oral communication skills. From my understanding and reading on topic 3 this is how verbal or verbal works. It works through symbolism, abstraction, arbitrariness, ambiguity or confusion of words and so on. An example of the word arbitrary is can refer to a relationship. Relationships between sound forms, words, letters and characters. The word arbitrary is said to have no natural or meaningful relation. It is one of the reasons why it is called arbitrary.

The ambiguity or confusion of words contains more than one meaning. It is ambiguity or confusion and forms a hope for an accidental humir occurrence. In addition, in terms of abstract, it is through the words and messages that are to be conveyed. Next, the power of words or verbal has words that package, create perceptions, it also affects with customs, it can also criticize or praise, can be agreeable or not and can make or break relationships.

In addition, I was also able to understand and learn how to deal with misunderstandings. The ways are to be careful with the meaning of the words spoken, be careful with the exchange of meanings, always be positive and so on. In those ways we can address each other’s understanding. Next, our way of gaining verbal support is by the way we express our hearts or our feelings. Solve problems calmly and always think from manipulating the situation.

In learning these verbal communication skills, I was able to learn how to apologize without feeling compelled. First of all we need to apologize first to the person we did wrong and always be honest to admit the mistake and sincere to apologize. Finally, I also learned how to be assertive by voicing our opinions, bridging our feelings, staying silent and waiting for something slow and so on.

In conclusion, a word we use has a profound effect on the people around us. Therefore, we need to be careful when speaking so as not to hurt the feelings of those around us. We use words for a variety of purposes and always understand verbal communication skills because they are so important in daily life.

Lesson 4 : Nonverbal Communication Skills

What is Nonverbal communication ?

Nonverbal communication is the process of using messages rather than words to convey meaning to others. It is not necessarily the use of movements or body language but the way we pronounce it.

What is benefit of nonverbal communication ?

It is the primary way we communicate our feelings and attitudes to others. Nonverbal messages are usually more reliable than verbal messages. Furthermore, nonverbal messages and verbal messages work together to give meaning. It helps people to react and adapt to others. Lastly, it is a major role in interpersonal communication.

I understand that nonverbal messages interact with verbal messages i.e. in terms of accent, complement, control, repetition and also others. It also helps manage the impact of whether to make us liked, trusted, to help and hide mistakes. Nonverbal messaging can also help improve relationships between friends, spouses, family and others. But what can be gained from this topic, nonverbal messages can also influence a person and deceive and can also show the feelings we feel. For example whether we are angry, sad or happy.

My understanding of nonverbal communication is that it has a code i.e. in terms of body movement and shape. It can be made through emblems made using hands or fingers, displays made from body shapes and illustrators made by one individual to another individual. In addition, in terms of eye sight it can function to express feelings through the eyes.

In addition, in terms of facial expressions also we can use as a nonverbal message. For example in my opinion, we can have shocked, scared, angry, sad and happy facial expressions so that people around understand in terms of facial expressions. Next, what I understand is that we can also use nonverbal messages in terms of vocal performances to convey emotions. It also helps us to manage the conversation and the tone used.

In conclusion, we must be careful to take any action because from facial expressions and actions without verbal communication, they can know whether we are angry, sad, happy and so on.

Man Listening to Headphones

Lesson 5 : Mindful Listening

Hear

Hearing is a physiological activity that involves sound waves that touch our eardrums. The process of hearing is awareness, receiving messages physically, communicate, remember and respond.

 Hearing barrier

In hearing there are barriers for us to hear. In topic 5 states hearing barriers are in terms of external barriers for example excessive messages and complexity of messages received. It can also be blocked from loud noise. Moreover, in terms of internal barriers can also be a cause for us to hear something. For example, causing the emergence of prejudice, reacting to emotional language and lack of effort.

Next, in topic 5 there is also stated the form of not listening. One is listening defensively, listening literally and selectively. In addition, it can adapt hearing to achieve communication goals. It is listening for pleasure and listening to information. We need to be careful with the information conveyed and need to control barriers so that the information conveyed can be heard clearly. Also, if we do not know the full information, it is necessary to ask questions for certainty and can use tools to help us remind us of something we want to convey and before presenting something should first compile the information.

Therefore, we must listen to support people's opinions by being careful in stating something and considering it. In addition, it is necessary to understand from the perspective of others so that they can give their opinions. Ask questions before giving their views and express support with their opinions.

In conclusion, we should always listen to the opinions of others so that there is no misunderstanding with each other. We need to ask questions about the information we want to convey to people so that what we convey does not conflict with existing information. When an individual gives his opinion, it is necessary that we listen and support his opinion so that he feels himself useful.
